# Beta Tester Guide

A step-by-step guide to what you can do in the EC3 2.0 beta: register and sign in, find materials, refine and sort results, select EPDs to compare, and read a full EPD profile.

This guide covers the EC3 2.0 Beta, open since October 20, 2026. The beta includes Find & Compare, EPD pages and Upload PDF. Projects and Assemblies appear in the navigation marked *Coming soon*; the announcement on Home says they arrive in the next few weeks.

{% hint style="info" %}
The screenshots in steps 1 and 12 come from the live beta. The others come from the approved EC3 2.0 designs, so the screens you see may differ slightly.
{% endhint %}

## Getting in

### 1. Register and sign in

The EC3 2.0 Beta runs on its own server, separate from EC3 1.0. Your EC3 1.0 email and password don't work there, so register a new beta account even if you already use EC3. Registration is open to everyone.

#### Register

1. Go to <https://bt-ec3.org> and select *Register* below the sign-in form.
2. Enter your **Email** and a **Password**. The password needs at least 10 characters, an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter, a number and a symbol, such as ! @ # $. The checklist under the field shows which rules you've met.
3. Select your **Primary profession**. It's required. Select all that apply, or choose *Other* if you'd rather not say.
4. Select *Register*.

<figure><img src="https://3092112806-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FPDhVD99RBnS0Qy4HvVPO%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-58915774c7af3f819a780db7cb0cc23611b7ab5c%2Fec3-2.0-beta-11-register.png?alt=media" alt="EC3 2.0 Beta register page with Email and Password fields, the password rules checklist, a required Primary profession field and a Register button, next to a product preview panel"><figcaption><p>The register page.</p></figcaption></figure>

#### Confirm your email

EC3 sends a confirmation link to the address you registered with. Open the email and select the link. The page that opens reads *Email confirmed*; select *Sign In* to continue. There is no approval step: once your email is confirmed, your account is active.

* Confirmation links expire, and each link works once. If yours no longer works, select *Request New Link* and open the link in the newest email.
* If you sign in before confirming, EC3 asks you to confirm first and offers *Resend Confirmation Email*. Check your spam folder if nothing arrives.

After you confirm, you also receive a *Welcome to the EC3 2.0 Beta* email with links to Find & Compare, EPD pages, Upload and this guide. It comes from a no-reply address, so send feedback from inside the beta instead (see step 12).

#### Sign in

Go to <https://bt-ec3.org>, enter your email and password, and select *Sign in*. The beta offers email and password sign-in only: company or social sign-in (SSO) isn't available.

The first time you sign in, EC3 shows the **EC3 User Agreement and Terms of Use**. Check *I have read and agree to the EC3 User Agreement and Terms of Use* and select *Agree and Continue*. *Disagree and Sign Out*, or closing the dialog, signs you out. After that you land on Home, where the announcement links to Find & Compare and Upload.

If something is wrong, the page explains it right above the form: a missing or badly formatted email, an email and password that don't match an active EC3 account, or too many attempts (wait for the countdown to end, then try again).

The panel on the right previews where EC3 2.0 is heading. As its disclaimer says, some of the features shown there are not available yet in this beta.

<figure><img src="https://3092112806-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FPDhVD99RBnS0Qy4HvVPO%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-5804ee162b313ed530b0078e161d31bbd0dfe615%2Fec3-2.0-beta-01-sign-in.png?alt=media" alt="EC3 2.0 Beta sign-in page with Email and Password fields, a Forgot password link, a Sign in button and a Register link, next to a product preview panel"><figcaption><p>The sign-in page, marked Beta next to the EC3 logo.</p></figcaption></figure>

#### Forgot your password

1. On the sign-in page, select *Forgot password?*.
2. Enter the email for your beta account and select *Send Reset Link*.
3. Open the email and select the link. If you don't see it, check your spam folder, or select *resend the email* on the page.
4. Enter a new password that meets the same rules as at registration. When the page reads *Password updated*, select *Sign In*.

Reset links expire and work once. If yours no longer works, select *Request New Link*.

If you still can't get in, use *Send Feedback* at the bottom right of the sign-in page to tell us (see step 12).

## Find materials

### 2. Open Find & Compare

Find & Compare opens on a single search box. Start from what you know: type a material or product term, or open the category list.

Below the search box, **Recent comparisons** lists your three most recent searches. Selecting one opens it exactly as it was when you ran it, as a read-only snapshot.

<figure><img src="https://3092112806-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FPDhVD99RBnS0Qy4HvVPO%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-ea0fa1e26fbdf21163295cda4ef2c098a30a07d1%2Fec3-2.0-beta-02-entry.png?alt=media" alt="Find and Compare entry screen with a search box and a list of three recent comparisons"><figcaption><p>The entry screen: one search box, plus your recent comparisons.</p></figcaption></figure>

### 3. Search by name or keyword

Type a material name, keyword or product term, for example *ready mix*. Matching categories appear under the box with their EPD counts, and you can select one directly from the list.

If nothing matches, EC3 says so and suggests loosening the search.

<figure><img src="https://3092112806-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FPDhVD99RBnS0Qy4HvVPO%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-e25a7b0e6852af2ab36b18ba15b974d7a446b0fa%2Fec3-2.0-beta-03-keyword-search.png?alt=media" alt="Search box with the text ready, showing Concrete and Ready Mix as suggestions with EPD counts"><figcaption><p>Typing "ready" suggests Concrete › Ready Mix.</p></figcaption></figure>

### 4. Browse and select one or more categories

Open the category list to browse from broad categories down to subcategories. Each one shows how many EPDs it holds.

* Check one or more categories. Each selection appears as a chip inside the search box. Remove a chip with its ×, or use *Clear all*.
* Categories with no EPDs yet show a zero count and can't be selected.
* Select the arrow button to see the results.

<figure><img src="https://3092112806-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FPDhVD99RBnS0Qy4HvVPO%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-1dc2ef71229e33b743a33331971ee19d1e92e51f%2Fec3-2.0-beta-04-browse-categories.png?alt=media" alt="Category tree open under the search box with Concrete expanded and Ready Mix checked; Ready Mix also appears as a chip in the search box"><figcaption><p>Ready Mix selected from the Concrete category.</p></figcaption></figure>

## Explore and compare

### 5. Review the results table

Results show one EPD per row. By default the table shows: product name, manufacturer, plant or plant group, expired, PO (the program operator's logo), year issued, type (EPD, PCF, LCA), scope (Industry, Manufacturer average or Facility specific), PCR, SC% (supply chain specificity), 3PV (third-party verified), labels, and GWP (kg CO₂e).

* **Scroll** to load more EPDs. They keep loading as you go.
* **Sort** by selecting a column header. The first click sorts ascending, the second descending, and the third returns to the default order. By default, the most recently published EPDs come first, then lowest GWP.
* **Columns** lets you show or hide columns. You can also drag a column edge to change its width.
* Hover over abbreviated headers such as SC%, 3PV or Scope to see what they mean. An em-dash (—) means the value isn't available for that EPD.

<figure><img src="https://3092112806-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FPDhVD99RBnS0Qy4HvVPO%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-c5fcbd6366f2a1d6b757fa84ff1583cdbb0e711f%2Fec3-2.0-beta-05-results.png?alt=media" alt="Results view with Ready Mix scope chip, filter chips, and a table of EPDs with manufacturer, plant, location, year, type, scope and reported GWP columns"><figcaption><p>Results for Ready Mix. The search and filter bar stays visible while you scroll.</p></figcaption></figure>

### 6. Refine with filters

Select *+ Filter* to add filters that apply to the category you're viewing. Only relevant filters are offered.

* **Technical specifications**, such as compressive strength or typical application. Numeric filters accept a minimum, a maximum, or both.
* **Manufacturing location** by continent, country, or state or province.
* Results must match every filter you add. Within a single filter, any of the selected values counts, for example any of several countries.
* Remove a filter with its ×. Results update right away, with no need to start over. If your filters leave no results, EC3 tells you and suggests removing one.
* *+ Category* adds more categories to the same search.

### 7. Select EPDs to compare

Check the box at the start of a row to add that EPD to your comparison. You can select up to **9 EPDs**. If you try to add a tenth, EC3 lets you know about the limit.

The count of selected EPDs appears next to the total, along with *Clear selection*. Clearing the selection never changes your results or filters.

<figure><img src="https://3092112806-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FPDhVD99RBnS0Qy4HvVPO%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-701741cc692e0e920ad037f386e858f00fab78f1%2Fec3-2.0-beta-06-select-epds.png?alt=media" alt="Results table with three EPD rows checked and the toolbar reading 60 EPDs, 3 selected, Clear selection"><figcaption><p>Three EPDs selected for comparison.</p></figcaption></figure>

### 8. Go back and adjust your search

Return to the Find & Compare start screen at any time. Your categories are still there, so you can add or remove some and run the search again. Your filters come back with you.

EC3 saves your work automatically as you go, so there is no save button. Each search becomes one of your recent comparisons.

<figure><img src="https://3092112806-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FPDhVD99RBnS0Qy4HvVPO%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-4e2ca101d2edb4f84562cd67a737838bd62a802d%2Fec3-2.0-beta-07-back-to-entry.png?alt=media" alt="Find and Compare entry screen with the Ready Mix chip still in the search box"><figcaption><p>Back on the start screen with Ready Mix still selected.</p></figcaption></figure>

## Read an EPD

### 9. Open an EPD profile

Select a product name in the results to open its full profile.

* The top of the page shows the product, manufacturer, plant location, category, type, scope and status. Key facts follow: date of issue, valid until, declared unit, mass per declared unit, language and where the product is available.
* The side panels summarize **Data quality**, the **Manufacturer** and the **Plant**, including a map of the plant's location.
* Use the link button to copy a link to the EPD. The trail at the top (Find & Compare / Results) takes you back to your results, with filters and selection intact.
* Further down you'll find declaration and verification details and the LCA discussion.

<figure><img src="https://3092112806-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FPDhVD99RBnS0Qy4HvVPO%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-2aac2c90ac4e67c7cbad2eb8c758755047995df0%2Fec3-2.0-beta-08-epd-profile.png?alt=media" alt="EPD profile for ReadyMix 4000 Air showing product header, key facts, embodied carbon summary and sidebar panels for data quality, manufacturer and plant"><figcaption><p>An EPD profile, with its sidebar panels on the right.</p></figcaption></figure>

### 10. Check embodied carbon against the category

The **Embodied carbon** section shows the reported GWP and the uncertainty-adjusted GWP. Next to them, a box plot places this EPD among EPDs in the same category, with the EC3 baseline marked.

The panel beside the chart lists the category median, the achievable value (20th percentile) and the conservative value (80th percentile). It also states which group of EPDs this one is compared against.

<figure><img src="https://3092112806-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FPDhVD99RBnS0Qy4HvVPO%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-39e38ed2fa2b1ee3a4fe3fc7f89ea8a4c0e869a2%2Fec3-2.0-beta-09-epd-embodied-carbon.png?alt=media" alt="Embodied carbon card with a box plot of the category GWP distribution, this EPD marked, and a statistics panel"><figcaption><p>This EPD against its category's GWP distribution.</p></figcaption></figure>

### 11. Read the full impact tables

Beyond GWP, the profile lists every declared indicator by life-cycle stage (A1–A3, A4, A5, B, C, D) in three tables:

* **Environmental impacts**, with the LCIA method for each indicator
* **Resource use indicators**
* **Waste and output flows**

<figure><img src="https://3092112806-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FPDhVD99RBnS0Qy4HvVPO%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-9fd7456cbfee85a9449b1c3f3424d96268837f1a%2Fec3-2.0-beta-10-epd-impacts.png?alt=media" alt="Environmental impacts table listing indicators such as gwp, gwp-fossil, adp-fossil and ap with unit, LCIA method and values by life-cycle stage"><figcaption><p>The Environmental impacts table.</p></figcaption></figure>

## Tell us what you think

### 12. Send feedback

Your feedback shapes what we build next. Tell us what worked, what was confusing, and what you expected to find but didn't. The beta has two ways to send it, both on every page:

* **Send Feedback**, the button at the bottom right of the screen. Use it for a specific bug, EPD or PCR problem, improvement or question. Choose the type under *I have a...*, describe it under *Details*, and use the markup tools at the top left (highlight, comment, pen, arrow, hide) to mark the screen. The report includes a screenshot of the page and the page address, and it's linked to your signed-in account. *Email for updates* is filled in with your account email.
* **Complete Survey**, at the foot of the left navigation. Use it for your overall impressions after a session. It opens the short beta survey in a new tab. If the navigation is collapsed to icons, select the menu button at the top left to expand it.

There is no email route for feedback: the welcome email comes from a no-reply address.

A useful report tells us four things:

1. **The page** you were on. Send Feedback adds this for you.
2. **What you did**, step by step, for example the category you searched and the filters you added.
3. **What you expected** to happen.
4. **What happened** instead, including any message EC3 showed.

After you select *Submit*, the report goes to the EC3 team, who sort it into the build backlog. If we need more detail, we email you at the address under *Email for updates*. You don't need to do anything else; keep testing, and send a new report for each separate issue.

<figure><img src="https://3092112806-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FPDhVD99RBnS0Qy4HvVPO%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-25c8d10d639a83fe4a8e314d46518730095ae2ad%2Fec3-2.0-beta-12-feedback.png?alt=media" alt="EC3 2.0 Beta Home page with the left navigation expanded, showing Complete Survey at the foot of the navigation and the Send Feedback button at the bottom right of the screen"><figcaption><p>Complete Survey at the foot of the navigation, Send Feedback at the bottom right.</p></figcaption></figure>
