Bentley iTwin Systems

Bentley's iTwin Platform integrated with EC3 allows you to take Quantity Takeoff reports created using the iTwin Reporting Platform and export them to EC3 for convenient Life Cycle Analysis for both infrastructure projects and buildings. The iTwin Platform enables aggregation of engineering data created by various design tools. A summary of the design data is exported through this integration, allowing you to gain insights into the environmental impacts of your infrastructure projects.

Starting in iTwin

In iTwin Experience users can view and analyse design elements, define properties and aggregate design elements into groups.

Grouped elements with information on material type and quantities can be exported to EC3 to perform carbon accounting.

User is directed to EC3 tool in a separate window.

Refining material information in EC3

In the EC3 tool, emission factors are automatically assigned based on the assigned material type. Users can either rely on the predefined data or adjust the emission factors according to their needs.

EC3 offers an extensive global material library that allows users to select the appropriate emission factor from its EPD database.

EC3 also provides various charts for analyzing the project's carbon footprint. For example, you can visualize contributions by materials and systems using the EC3 Sankey diagram.

Carbon analysis in iTwin

Prepared carbon data can be pulled back to iTwin Experience to visualize the carbon within the design using heatmaps.

Carbon heatmap is created based on the original element groups.

User can turn off groups and analyse only selected elements.

Carbon data can be viewed also as a pie chart.

Pie charts allow users to see details in the groups.
